Like
the first Bilingual Summer Program in 2008, participants
will work on digital media productions in small groups.
It is the program's goal to enhance participants'
cross-cultural understanding and improve their communication
skills by having both English and Japanese native
speakers in group activities together.
In 2009, given the theme, "Japan
in New York," each group explored
aspects of Japanese culture and business in New York.
Topics from previous film projects included an animation,
a J-pop music video, and a documentary about Japanese
food in NY.
Another distinctive feature of this program is
Keio's original online system.
Participants are encouraged to utilize it to discuss,
research, decide film topics (e.g. sports, art, journalism,
etc.) and exchange ideas, which allows them to have
virtual summer program experiences even prior to their
arrival to Keio campus. Parents are also welcome to
use this system to update the progress of the projects
and to communicate with participants and staff.
Participants will take English
as a Second Language (ESL) or Japanese as a Second
Language (JSL) classes. They will
learn their target languages and have opportunities
to use those languages through various activities
and dormitory life. There will also be many activities
lined up, such as dance, cross-cultural events, field
trips to Broadway musical, etc.
